چکیده

The skin friction on a surface is a major concern by engineers. It is widely accepted that turbulent flow has higher friction than laminar flow due to the higher mixing in boundary layer. However, our new high order DNS found that the high friction is generated in a laminar zone in a transitional flow. Whenever the small length scales are generated, the velocity shear becomes very large in the laminar sub-layer which is caused by increment of momentum. Then the surface friction quickly jumps to a very high level even the flow is still laminar. Since for incompressible flow the viscous coefficient is a constant, there is no direct co-relation between high surface friction and mixing or turbulence. Therefore, high surface friction is only directly related to velocity gradient which is immediately enlarged by small length scale generation near the wall. Numerical Simulation of Separation Bubble on Elliptic Cylinders Using Three-equation k-? Turbulence Model

Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...

A NUMERICAL STUDY OF SINGLE-PHASE FORCED CONVECTIVE HEAT TRANSFER WITH FLOW FRICTION IN MICROCHANNELS (RESEARCH NOTE)

Three-dimensional simulations of the single-phase laminar flow and forced convective heat transfer of water in microchannels with small rectangular sections having specific hydraulic diameters and distinct geometric configurations were investigated numerically. The numerical results indicated that the laminar heat transfer was to be dependent upon the aspect ratio and the ratio of the hydraulic...

Numerical study of flow and heat transfer characteristics of CuO/H2O nanofluid within a mini tube

Nanofluids are new heat transfer fluids, which improve thermal performance while reducing the size of systems. In this study, the numerical domain as a three-dimensional copper mini tube was simulated to study the characteristics of flow and heat transfer of CuO/H2O nanofluid, flowed horizontally within it. The selected model for this study was a two-phase mixture model. The results ...
